| What Do You Have To Say? - Winters in my Childhood |

It was cold, but it was a good kind of cold. It was the kind of cold that makes a well-insulated Canadian house's fireplace truly a warm and happy place to sit in front of, especially with my parents and relatives. The deep contrast between the vast, wintery white of the snow-covered wonderland and the cozy, dimly-lit light of the fire dancing among the shadows in the living room almost gives a sense of yin and yang. A state of total balance; truly, a sanctuary.
One particular memory I have of Canadian winters is with my mum. She would pick me up from preschool, with that giant, boxy green car of hers. The interior consisted of some kind of slippery leather or plastic material; the kind that imitates the feeling of sitting on a dry ice cube (but not literally dry ice) if you didn't let the car warm up first. I would sit in the back, and then just before we got to where we turned a sharp right into the driveway of our townhouse complex parking lot, my mum would turn and look back at me and say with a devious smile, "Ready?" I nodded my head and smiled back, gripping the seat belt like gripping the safety bars on a roller coaster ride. We reached the peak point, and then we made a hard right. The car wheels sliding on the partially frozen road. A mixture of childhood adrenaline and euphoria. My mum and I together, happy and reckless with nothing to lose. Nothing could be better. |

lol andrew ratermann is an idiot. last year and this year they somehow always end up, at some point in time, mixing my name up with someone else. i just realized that that one email i got from them a while ago started out "Dear Brett" lololol but it had my picture attached and the file name was my name too. aoleijrapo9dfu and last year, somehow my piece got mixed up with another girl's piece in my class.... even though my name was written rather largely on the back of mine. lol aiyah. incompetence?

hopefully i can go to that art show @_@ it'd be sweet to see stuff in person instead of just online 8\ haha and then sola and i can see if her cousin is there and then we can see if he recognizes her lolol

let's see.... soooo... the only parts i remember are.
1. i was somewhere... on a road trip with my parents? or in my house, not sure. don't know where my mum was, but i know my vati was there and i think he was sleeping. yeah, it must've been on vacation in a hotel or just in an oversized room in my house or something. and so i had this little lamp thing with letters on it. it was like a puzzle i guess? i don't know what the word was originally, but i ended up spelling hell and some.. weird... abbreviated version of heaven or something by shifting the letters around on the base of the lamp thing. the lamp had a knob i guess... or a dial to adjust the light, but it was more like... adjusting a certain type of light as opposed to brightness. so it had like... regular light, a brighter white light, glow in the dark light, etc. iono, it was weird. and i guess it was attached to this giant display in my room of a.... haunted house? but it was like... a really detailed haunted house that you would see in safeway or something. sort of fun, but still creepy and filled with a bunch of random crap. i'm pretty sure there was a woody from toystory and a frankenstein in there. lol and when i adjusted the lamp's dial, i would see different things light up and the images would change and it was craaaazzyyy. but yeah. it was so detailed. i wish i remembered the details.
2. i was in some kind of movie or something... maybe. like a science fiction movie. now that i think about it, it kind of reminded me of a mixture of pure science fiction and spiderman 3. lol so i was with a group of people... i think one of them was glenn close or whatever... or maybe just like... that lady... from devil wears prada who i can't remember the name of. we were in some kind of lab maybe? and there was this thing lurking around in certain corners or something.... maybe just specifically in one of the doors/closets. it was like a living [white] web. creepy. i think it ate people. not really sure. but at one point they opened the door so i could see what was inside and i saw the creepy white thing moving around as if it were specifically contained in there, but i knew it wasn't. it was dangerous and we had to figure out how to get rid of it. but they closed the door and some of it got out and totally wrapped itself around the glenn close-ish lady and slammed her again the door [because it was trying to get back inside the door/closet] but we did something... maybe sprayed it? and it let her go and i sprayed a little extra blob of it that thought it was going to get away. noob.
3. after that, the setting somehow shifted to my parents and i in a deserted mall. a weird mall at that. we were walking in a corn field-esque sort of patch of land inside the mall, but if was more like... bunches of neatly plotted, really long strands of grass... or bushes or something. and so my parents and i... i guess we were still trying to figure out how to get rid of that web monster-ish thing... or at least we were trying to find out where it was so we could avoid it. we were looking at the ground in the middle of the patches of bush/grass things to see if there was anything suspicious. most of them had a little pistol-bullet-[shell?]-shaped seed thing or plastic thing there. but some of them had these little plastic... things. lol i don't know how to describe them. but i saw a couple and i would pull off the cap and then pull off the second cap because i didn't know what it was, but i got paranoid, so i closed them and hoped that i hadn't broken any seals or something. my parents and i stepped out from there and we were just walking around [it was deserted] and then all of a sudden i hear this sound and i look behind us and the mall is being eaten away by... i guess... the langoliers LOL and so we were like oh shieeettt and we started running and i was leading us away from it, and then at one point in the mall garage i wanted to go one way and my vati wanted to go through the other door and usually in my dreams, i go my way instead of following them... which tends to end up with me never seeing my parents again. which sucks. but this time i was just like whatever, so we went that way, up a ramp and exiting out the left number 4 door and we were outside and i was like... wow, well if we had gone my way, we would've been here faster, but whatever. and so then we kept running and all of a sudden we see this van and i'm thinking... maybe we could use it, but of course there's people inside and they drive away frantically. we see some more cars pass by. we keep running. and then i woke up or something else happened. lol
it just bothers me how detailed my dreams are sometimes.
oh yeah, and another time i had a dream that taro went surfing in the ocean or something and then he got eaten by a zombie or a shark or a zombie shark... or at least i told him not to go in there and he was never heard from again. lol so to go along with whatever date i had conjured for him to die on that one year in french, on that day he's probably going to die out in sea. lol |
